Restoring a Vanity Fit for Royalty: A Labor of Love

Restoring furniture can be a rewarding yet challenging task, especially when dealing with the aftermath of latex-based paint—something any restorer will tell you is a real struggle! This particular vanity was no exception. With layers of latex paint obscuring its beauty, I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me. The drawers, which were also painted, refused to function properly until I painstakingly removed the paint layer by layer.

Each step of this restoration process required hours of attention and detail, but it was all worth it for the end result. This vanity wasn’t just any piece of furniture—it was destined for a special home in Japan. My wonderful client had a vision of a bedroom bathed in royal blue and gold, and this vanity was to be the crown jewel.

I decided to create a custom blue for the piece, a shade that balanced elegance and tranquility. The deep blue, paired with gold accents around the trim, transformed the vanity into a bold yet serene statement piece. It exudes luxury while still maintaining a sense of calm, creating a perfect focal point for her bedroom.
