The Journey of Refinishing a Massive Desk

Let me share some details about this MASSIVE desk I refinished last week. First off, it was absolutely BEYOND GORGEOUS! This desk was so large that it took three men to carry it. With double-sided handles and measuring six feet long by five feet wide, I could literally lay on it without any body parts hanging off. It was HUGE, and I loved every inch of it!

Custom Work for a Fantastic Client

I found this desk for my amazing client in North Carolina, who requested a custom desk and two nightstands (which I had already refinished). She wanted a slate gray finish, which perfectly complemented the desk’s features. One particularly interesting aspect was the locking mechanism on the drawers. My friend Jessica and I had quite the adventure trying to figure out how to unlock them since there was no key!

The Refinishing Process

After carefully sanding, painting, and restoring the handles, I received my client’s approval. It was then time to ship the desk off to North Carolina. The delivery team I work with is truly phenomenal. I have no idea how they managed to carry such a hefty piece! Each item is wrapped in plastic, then blanket-wrapped, and finished off with another layer of plastic. A little neurotic? Maybe! But I believe in protecting these beautiful pieces at all costs.
